Norwegian sets start date for Las Vegas flights

Low-cost carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle launches London Gatwick to Las Vegas flights in October.

The route will initially run twice a week from October 31.

Flights will leave Gatwick at 1210 on Monday and Thursday, arriving into Las Vegas at 1600, returning at 1800 and arriving in London 1050 the following day.

Fares are now on sale starting at £179 one-way.

Earlier this month Norwegian launched Gatwick to San Francisco flights, operating three times a week.

The carrier’s Irish-based unit, Norwegian Air International, is still awaiting clearance to operate separate transatlantic flights.

Although it has been given tentative approval by the transportation department, US labour unions and both Democratic presidential front runners have urged the Obama Administration to deny an air permit over the airline’s proposed use of low-cost outsourced labour.

US pilot unions say this will ultimately drive down wages and cost jobs.
