Norwegian strike enters second week

A strike by pilots at Norwegian Air has entered its second week.

The low-cost airline has cancelled almost all domestic flights in Norway and Sweden but will operate a few domestic routes in Denmark.

It said some European routes will also be cancelled, but its long-haul flights to the US and Thailand will not be affected.

The airline apologised to passengers for the uncertainty following the breakdown in talks with the Norwegian Pilot Union Parat.

The strike comes as reports emerged at the weekend that Norwegian’s parent, Norwegian Air Shuttle, is about to set up a UK subsidiary.

It claimed the move is designed to allow the group to evade a row over its plans to expand its transatlantic operations.

The newspaper claimed that Norwegian is believed to be behind Westforce Aviation, which was set up in December by two aviation lawyers from the London law firm Ince & Co.
