Norwegian warns of ‘prolonged crisis’ amid latest dire figures
Norwegian Air has warned of a ‘prolonged crisis’ amid another huge drop in passengers.
Figures for September show a 90% decline in numbers as capacity was slashed by 93%.
Load factor was down 37 percentage points to 53%.
Norwegian Chief Executive Jacob Schram has previously warned that the airline will struggle to emerge from Covid without a government bail out.
Speaking of the latest data, Schram said travel restrictions caused by the Europe-wide resurgence of Covid was causing havoc.
"In September several European countries were classified as ‘red’ by the authorities," he said. "We have seen that as soon as the authorities impose new travel restrictions demand is immediately impacted.
"We are continuously adapting our route network in line with changing demand, but the frequent changes in travel restrictions make forward planning difficult, both for us and our customers.
"Looking ahead, this continues to be a prolonged crisis that is far from over."
