Not ALL Travelscene customers protected
An ABTA spokesman has confirmed that not all customers of the Travelscene Group will be protected following the collapse of the company.
Customers who booked accommodation only through the Travelscene-owned website Citybedz.com or the subsidiary Austro Tours Limited will not be protected.
ABTA spokesman Sean Tipton told TravelMole: “If customers received an invoice from Travelscene and paid Travelscene then that is a direct claim to ABTA.”
Those customers that paid money to the unbonded companies – Citybedz.com or the subsidiary Austro Tours – will not be able to make a claim.
The liquidators dealing with the collapse, Poppleton and Appleby, say they don’t yet know how many customers held bookings with the unbonded subsidiaries. A spokesman for the company said that the precise figures would be known following a meeting forecast for later this week.
Harrow-based Travelscene was a leading short breaks operator. The company folded last week after 37 years, forcing its sales director John Harding to resign from his role as president of ABTA.
