Now New Zealand approves trans-Tasman tie-up
New Zealand’s Minister of Transport has followed the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission by approving the trans Tasman alliance between Air New Zealand and Virgin Blue.
Air NZ chief executive, Rob Fyfe, said Air New Zealand and Virgin Blue would now form a team to bring the alliance to life over the coming months.
“We look forward to being able to connect our customers between all Australian cities served by Virgin Blue and all towns and cities where we operate in New Zealand,†he said.
The alliance has pledged to offer a broad free-sale code-share arrangement covering all Tasman sectors currently operated by either airline and domestic sectors forming part of a connecting Tasman journey.
There will also be a revenue allocation agreement supported by a joint trans-Tasman Network Planning and Revenue Management team.
There will also be reciprocal frequent flyer and lounge access agreements.
