Now Virgin get the cricket bug
England and Australia are not the only old adversaries locking horns today – Virgin Atlantic have gone head-to-head in an Ashes marketing showdown with BA.
BA yesterday said it would reduce its fares Down Under by the number of runs scored by Australia in their first innings at the Oval. The number of tickets will be based on England’s first innings performance.
Now Virgin claim to have gone one better by offering cut price “Freddie Fares” – which will be based on the performance of our own Andrew Freddie Flintoff.
The carrier said it will reduce its £742 fare Down Under by the total number of runs the English hero scores in the series. Flintoff has already amassed 322 runs with the last test to come.
“BA’s ticket promotion could be scuppered by a strong showing by the Aussies,” said Virgin chairman Richard Branson. “By backing man of the series Andrew Freddie Flintoff we are guaranteeing that hundreds of people will celebrate his success with unbeatable deals to Sydney.”
Flintoff’s series total will also determine how many tickets go on sale at the discounted price.
