‘Nut rage’ flight attendant awarded compensation
A Korean Air flight attendant has been awarded nearly $18,000 for being subjected to abuse in the infamous ‘nut rage’ incident of 2014.
Park Chang-jin was awarded compensation for ‘physical and psychological suffering’, although the pay-out was less than he originally claimed.
Park was forced to bow down and apologise after he served the Korean Air chairman’s daughter Cho Hyun-ah nuts in a packet rather than on a plate.
He was ejected from the flight on the orders of airline executive Cho who demanded the plane return to the gate in New York.
Park was later demoted for speaking out about the incident, although the court ruled that this was not illegal.
Cho was convicted of violating aviation safety and abuse of power and served time in prison.
Her younger sister Cho Hyun-min, also an executive at the time, also had a more recent meltdown, throwing water on a marketing manager during a heated meeting.
She was also forced into an embarrassing apology.
Both sisters left their roles at the airline following the respective incidents.
