NYC & Company taps Big Apple’s starring role in ‘Fantastic Beasts’ film

New York is tapping the creative storytelling of Harry Potter author JK Rolling and Hollywood fantasy CGI effects for its latest tourism campaign.

NYC & Company has aligned itself with upcoming fantasy movie ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ which is set in 1920s New York City.

The premiere takes place late today in Manhattan which has been described as a ‘promotional gift’ for its tourism marketing efforts.

"Warner Bros approached us. It’s a big project, the first in a series of films, and it looks like New York will play the same role that London played in the Harry Potter films," said NYC & Company president and chief executive Fred Dixon.

"We’ll be using the hashtag #fantasticNYC to promote magical NYC. It’s a fantastic popular culture tie-in," he added.

1920s New York was recreated using CGI tech for the film which features bygone scenes of Central Park Zoo, Times Square, Statue of Liberty and the Lower East Side.

Fantastic Beasts themed tours will begin next week.
