NZ keeps watch on Chinese visitors
AUCKLAND – New Zealand is monitoring Chinese tourists travelling around the country to ensure that they are getting value for money.
Dr Jonathan Coleman, NZ’s associate minister of tourism, said, “We’ve had problems in the past with some Chinese visitors not experiencing the best of times because of the low-cost packages they were offered.â€
Tourism NZ chief executive George Hickton said the Approved Destination Status (ADS) monitoring unit is “mystery shopping†Chinese visitor experiences to ensure that those taking a tour of New Zealand are getting what they pay for.
“The unit is looking at coach transport, hotel accommodation and tour inclusions. It’s a challenging area but we are making progress,†Hickton said.
New Zealand was the first country to sign an ADS agreement with China and has maintained a special relationship with Chinese authorities.
