Ocean Medallion tech to be phased in on Regal Princess
Carnival Corp is scaling back the rollout of the Ocean Medallion wearable tech program.
The new high-tech system is still on track to launch first on Regal Princess but it will not be immediately available for all cruisers.
It will be introduced in phases to avoid any early teething problems and ‘ensure a successful implementation that results in experience excellence,’ said Carnival spokeswoman Claire West.
"This approach will allow us to receive continuous feedback from a controlled number of guests and crew while the ship is in service," West said.
It will be gradually phased during a ‘preview’ period from the November 13 launch date through spring 2018.
That means during each cruise groups of staterooms will be progressively added instead of a complete rollout from day one.
Ocean Medallion is a Bluetooth wearable tech powered by shipboard sensors allowing guests to go through the embarkation process in super quick time, order food and beverages from anywhere, locate friends on the ship and access staterooms without a key.
Princess Cruises is the first Carnival cruise brand to adopt the tech with others to follow in the future.
