Oceania joins ranks of all-you-can-drink

Oceania Cruises will become the latest line to offer passengers all-you-can-drink cocktail packages. Cruise Critic calls them controversial but the option, which follows that of concept pioneer Celebrity Cruises, begins early next year.

Oceania will offer two different options. One includes house wine and beer with dinner and lunch or with room service at a cost of $29.95 per person per day. The second package at $49.95 per person, per day, includes all beverages on the bar menu with a few expensive exceptions and room service beverages (though not the mini-bar).

“This new concept is clearly aimed at competing with other upmarket cruise lines, such as Celebrity, as well as Viking River. Azamara already includes house beer and wine in its cruise fares (but offers no additional packages),” writes Cruise Critic.

Oceania already includes in cruise fares items like soft drinks, bottled water and specialty coffees and teas. Most lines charge extra for these.

“As always, there's fine print, though nothing unreasonable,” according to Cruise Critic.

Package prices include gratuities and can be pre-booked online or through a reservations representative. They can also be purchased onboard at any time during the cruise (with prices prorated for days remaining). Passengers can upgrade from one package to another during the voyage, but they cannot downgrade.

And refunds? Not allowed.
