Olympic online booking challenge for operators
Operators with live bookable inventory on their websites will benefit most from global bookings triggered by London hosting the Olympic Games.
The message came from travel industry technology company Metafour as VisitBritain estimated that the 2012 games would attract an additional £2 billion in revenue from foreign visitors.
But it is estimated that only 3% of inbound operators offer a live booking system, according to Metafour. The company has commissioned a survey on the online booking capabilities of inbound and outbound operators with results due out next month.
The firm’s managing director Mark Rogers said: “With visitors arranging their travel from around the world it will be essential that inbound tour operators are able to offer 24/7 live availability.
“Only those offering this live booking service will be able to maximise the effects of the 2012 Olympic Games on their business.”
