Online agent predicts best value resorts this year
Agadir in Morocco will be the best value for money luxury destination in 2015, according to On the Beach.
The online agent claimed it had looked at average holiday costs during 2014 to predict the best value destinations for this year and Agadir came out top, just ahead of Malta, in the five-star category.
However, the survey does not appear to take into consideration such factors as fluctuating currency exchange rates.
Based on last year’s prices, the Algarve came third followed by Hammamet in Tunisia, followed by Paphos in Cyprus.
In the four-star category, Spain rules with three destinations in the top five, which are Costa Brava, the Algarve, Malaga, Alicante and Halkidiki in Greece.
For all-inclusive resorts, Malta is the best value destination, said On the Beach, followed by the Costa Brava, Crete, Hammamet and the Algarve.
The On the Beach report also revealed that, in some cases, it is cheaper to stay in a high class hotel, although it did not explain why. It claimed that in Malta, holidaymakers can save up to 45% by upgrading from a three-star to a four-star hotel.
In Menorca, holidaymakers will save up to 24% upgrading to a three-star from a two-star property.
Chief marketing officer Alistair Daly said: "Our beach holiday report shows that for those looking for a great value holiday in 2015, there are some fantastic destinations to choose from. The report also shows that holidaymakers really need to do their homework and check across a range of destinations and hotels as the lower grade holidays are not always the cheapest. "
