Oops…Cathay did it again
Cathay Pacific has again said it will honour premium tickets that were snapped up at a fraction of their original price after a second pricing error by the airline in two weeks.
First-class tickets from Portugal to Hong Kong were sold for HK$11,800 (about £1,178), when the full first-class fare is about £12,500.
For example, an early morning flight from Lisbon to Frankfurt, followed by a flight at midday in first class on Cathay to Hong Kong, cost the normal price, but a midday flight from Lisbon to London, followed by a late afternoon Cathay flight in first class, was listed at the discounted price.
Cathay said: "We are aware of an error on some fares from Europe on our website because of an input issue. The sale of such fares was stopped immediately.
"We are looking into the root cause of this incident both internally and externally with our vendors.
"For the very small number of customers who have purchased these tickets, we look forward to welcoming you on board to enjoy our premium services."
Two weeks ago, bargain hunters snapped up cut-price deals from Asia to destinations in North America before the airline realised they were being sold at far lower than their usual price.
At that time, Cathay honoured the tickets, blamed human error and tweeted: #lessonlearnt.
