Orient’s 50th hotel is in Mexico
Orient-Express Hotels announced its 50th property with the acquisition of Casa de Sierra Nevada, a 33-room boutique hotel in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
The hotel was ranked as one of the top in Mexico in various polls. Its guests include celebrities such as Salma Hayek and Johnny Depp.
It is Orient-Express’s second hotel in Mexico. The other is Maroma Resort and Spa on the Riviera Maya.
Orient Express now owns a 75% interest in the Casa de Sierra Nevada and plans to invest $5 million for renovations that include adding 20 new suites and a full service spa.
Orient-Express Hotels, Trains and Cruises is a hotel and leisure company founded in 1976. The company does not use its fabled “Orient” name because it believes “discerning travelers will choose a famous individual property in preference to a chain brand.”
