Overhead bin problems cause American Airlines to ground planes
American Airlines canceled dozens of flights after taking 14 airplanes out of service over substandard work performed by a vendor on overhead bins.
The airline cited ‘the quality of work’ carried out by the vendor after discovering issues on two Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Another 12 aircraft that the vendor worked on were proactively grounded for inspections, AA said.
The vendor is FAA-licensed, the carrier said.
"Though the issue did not impact the safety of flight of these aircraft, we are working with our vendor and the FAA to immediately address this issue," American said.
All passengers on the affected flights have now been re-booked.
American operates more than 300 Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
