2025 preliminary data from the U.S. Trade Administration – International Visitors Arrival Program– points to a 2.5% decrease in overseas arrivals. The mediocre performance excludes international arrivals from Canada as well as from Mexico by land. The largest declines came from Africa at -11%, Oceania at -7.2% and the Caribbean at -4.9%.

Western European arrivals were also down by -3.2%. They were however counterbalanced by arrivals from Central/Eastern Europe, up 2.5%. Arrivals from Asia decline also by – 2.9% while South American visitors’ number remained basically flat.

Moving into positive fields were however arrivals from the Middle East up 2%, Mexico (only arrivals by air) up 2.3% and Central America by up 4.7%.

In total, the United States recorded last year 34.289 million overseas arrivals and another 3.621 million air arrivals from Mexico. This represented a total of 37.91 million international arrivals.

Anticipating the release of Canada’s arrivals by the end of this month, experts meanwhile estimate that U.S. total international arrivals should be done by 6% last year. The US Travel Association indeed points to a double-digit decline from Canadian travelers until November 2025 while Mexican land arrivals were up also by double-digits. Canada is the United States largest inbound market.

Among the top 20 overseas countries, ten recorded a growth -including the UK, America’s largest inbound market while Germany posted the sharpest contraction at -11.3%. Not surprisingly, the largest decline out of Europe came from Denmark, down by -23.7%. Swiss arrivals did not particularly perform well, sharply down at -10.7%.

Most surprisingly, the European countries with the strongest growth to the USA were… Russia and Ukraine. Both progressed exactly by the same percentage : 5.4%!
