OYO rolls out ‘Lite’ version of app
Indian budget hospitality chain OYO Hotels and Homes has rolled out a new stripped down version of its mobile app, optimised for use in lower bandwidth locations.
The new Lite app version has the same functionality and designed to take the frustration out of going online in low connectivity areas.
Oyo Lite, with a size of less than 800KB, consumes less data and is only 7% of the size of the main OYO app.
"We feel that this product would be ideal for travellers who are remotely connected to the internet as well as those with basic smartphones," said Anil Goel, Oyo’s chief technology officer.
"The Lite app is a step forward in that direction and will enable travellers to make last minute travel plans without worrying about the network."
The Lite version is now live and available to all Andoid users globally.
Oyo also recently launched an industry first in-app SOS button which allows guests to alert hotel staff and an on-call 24/7 OYO safety response team in the event of an emergency.
It can also send immediate call-out requests to police and other emergency services.
