Pacific Asia shines on 2026 best travel lists
Destinations across Pacific Asia have earned plaudits and top spots in both Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2026 and National Geographic’s Best of the World 2026 lists.
The lists were recently revealed, highlighting a growing shift toward culturally immersive and environmentally responsible travel.
Twelve Pacific Asia destinations have been singled out for their innovation, accessibility, and authentic appeal, including:
Jeju-Do, South Korea – volcanic landscapes, UNESCO-listed sites, and vibrant cultural scene.
Dongseo Trail, South Korea – Highlighted for its scenic hiking routes connecting eastern and western regions and promoting sustainable outdoor tourism.
North Island, New Zealand – recognised for its diverse ecosystems, Māori culture, and adventure tourism offerings.
Ikara-Flinders Ranges and Outback, Australia – ancient geological formations and Indigenous heritage.
Fiji – highlighted for its sustainable tourism initiatives and vibrant coral reefs.
Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Northern Territory, Australia – spiritual significance and desert landscapes.
Yamagata Prefecture, Japan – celebrated for its hot springs, traditional festivals, and scenic beauty.
Beijing, China – rich history, cultural landmarks, and modern developments.
Manila, Philippines – vibrant urban life, historical sites, and culinary scene.
Phuket, Thailand – renewed focus on sustainable travel, community-based experiences, and coastal preservation.
Siem Reap, Cambodia – celebrated for its blend of ancient heritage and contemporary creativity surrounding Angkor Wat.
Quy Nhon, Vietnam – pristine beaches, seafood cuisine, and emerging reputation as an eco-friendly coastal escape.

PATA is urging travel agents to stay up to date with product training to capitalise on these emerging opportunities.
