Parent looks to sell airline baby
Lufthansa has begun talks to sell budget carrier bmibaby to German turnaround specialist Intro Aviation after reaching a deal to sell BMI to British Airways’ parent IAG for £172.5m.
According to a report on Bloomberg.com, Intro chief executive Peter Oncken is looking at bmibaby in detail.
Bloomberg quoted Oncken saying bmibaby could probably be restructured "relatively quickly" although its operation is closely woven with the rest of BMI.
Lufthansa confirmed talks were ongoing "with several interested parties". IAG will get a discount on the agreed purchase price for BMI if Lufthansa fails to offload bmibaby, which lost €120m last year.
