Parents: thumbs down to theme parks
A vast majority of family travelers refer to visit destinations where everyone, including adults, can enjoy their trip, according to key findings from the Travel Ticker 2010 Family Vacations Survey.
Perhaps that’s no surprise but an astounding 97 percent of parents feel that way.
Other surprising findings:
• Eighty percent of parents prefer to visit a destination that is not a theme park on their next family vacation if cost and planning efforts were comparable.
• Almost two thirds of parents often feel that family vacations are more about their children’s preferences rather than their own.
• More than two-thirds of parents may prefer to choose a destination that is not a theme park if there is a good deal or discount.
• More than one-third of respondents say they get overwhelmed planning family vacations.
“Parents are busy and they want the best for their kids, which is why plug-and-play theme park trips are so popular,” said Barbara Messing, General Manager of Travel Ticker. She added:
“But the Family Vacation Survey confirms what I’ve heard so often — parents don’t get much enjoyment for themselves. So I’d like to help them find an amazing vacation for everyone without sacrificing the fun for the kids or spending a lot of money.”
She suggests parents consider beaches, big cities, cultural outings and other lower cost outings.
