Park Hotel Amsterdam: ‘Keep the Green in the Team’

Monday, 11 Aug, 2016 0

The Park Hotel Amsterdam is an urban boutique hotel nestled in the heart of the Fashion and Museum district in The Netherland’s capital. Here, business travellers and discerning individuals can enjoy understated elegance and unparalleled service in an intimate, home-away-from-home atmosphere.

Green Globe recently recertified The Park Hotel Amsterdam for the third year.

Suzanne de Zwaan, the Hotel Manager said, "We are extremely proud that the hotel is recertified with the Green Globe Certification label. I am very proud of the entire team who put in a great deal of effort. We also have our own Green Globe dedicated team and a special thank you goes to the Vice President of the group, Charity Post, who made it all happen."

Over the past year, as part of their Sustainability Management Plan, the hotel has focused on improving two key pillars – staff development and social initiatives. Employees at the Park Hotel believe that personal development is parallel to guest experience. To encourage long-term growth in their chosen careers, the goals and aspirations of each staff member are identified through Personal Performance interviews. The needs and interests of employees are then stimulated and supported by offering them as much training as possible in their own profession and section. Through this unique training program employees become ambassadors, or mentors, who take responsibility for their colleagues. Every ambassador becomes involved with other departments which creates an enormously strong and close team. The result – guest satisfaction increased this year along with staff satisfaction.

Social responsibility and the local community is also a significant pillar within the Park Hotel. During Christmas time, all employees collected food for the Dutch Food Bank. The Food Bank collects food free of charge from various businesses and hotels and distributes the food to people from low-income backgrounds in The Netherlands. It has been reported that the Dutch Food Bank’s supplies have been running low as demand for food steadily increases. The donations from Park Hotel Amsterdam staff provide greatly needed Christmas cheer to people and families living below the poverty line.

Minimizing the impact of business operations on the environment is important to the Park Hotel. A key element in the hotel’s philosophy is its motto, "Keep the Green in the Team". Each quarter, the property’s Green Globe Ambassadors come together to brainstorm new sustainable initiatives including projects for each individual department. Successful initiatives include new signs for litterbins so guests are aware how easy it is to recycle, an additional check around rooms to turn off lights in meeting rooms and spaces, extra bills sent by e-mail instead of printed copies and collecting Nespresso cups for recycling. Such actions save power and paper and decrease waste volume.
