Park Plaza hotels in London has launched an initiative to help tackle Britain’s youth unemployment problem.

Through its you:niversity Plus’ programme 2012, the group will offer hospitality students a paid placement year at one of the five London Park Plaza properties with a specific learning curriculum, a senior level mentor, quarterly progress reviews and the opportunity to manage a project and attend hotel management meetings.

Following an application process, successful candidates will be invited to the one-day recruitment event on 16 March at flagship hotel Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London.

Based on their performance in a series of group activities, one to one interviews and written exercises, 19 students will be chosen and will be assigned to a London property that best suits their areas of interest.

"Rising youth unemployment is a grave concern and we realise how difficult it is for many young people to get started in their careers after leaving school and university," says Georgia Gray, UK human resources manager at Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts.

"We wanted to offer a programme designed specifically for this demographic to offer them the opportunity to get their foot in the door and gain some vital industry experience. In previous years we’ve gone on to hire promising students so for us it’s a great chance to strengthen our team with young talent."
