Passenger arrives in Newark with suspected Ebola
A passenger arriving at Newark Airport on Tuesday from West Africa has been hospitalized for suspected Ebola.
The male traveller was taken to University Hospital in Newark after an airport screening identified symptoms similar to Ebola, the CDC said.
"During the enhanced screening process an individual was identified as reporting symptoms or having a potential exposure to Ebola," CDC spokeswoman Carol Crawford said.
The passenger’s journey began in Liberia and he arrived in the US on a United Airlines flight via Brussels.
The CDC said it is working with airport officials to contact other passengers travelling on the flight.
The latest US Ebola scare came on the same day tougher rules were announced for passengers flying from Ebola-infected West Africa.
Those new DHS restrictions start today and require passengers traveling from Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea to enter the US only at five designated airports, including Newark.
The other airports are New York JFK, Washington Dulles, Atlanta and Chicago O’Hare.
