Passenger plane in emergency landing
A Virgin Australia plane has made an emergency landing in regional Victoria after running low on fuel.
The plane, which was travelling from Adelaide to Melbourne, landed safely at Mildura on Tuesday morning.
Fairfax Media reported that Mildura Airport CEO Bill Burke said the plane, and a separate Qantas flight, had been diverted to Mildura because of heavy fog in Melbourne.
However, the fog rolled in across Mildura too, making landing difficult.
The Virgin flight had to pull out of two attempted landings, and ran low on fuel in the process, Fairfax reported.
A Virgin Australia spokesman said the plane was met by emergency vehicles on landing as ”a precautionary measure only, that is standard operating procedure under the conditions, which in this instance was a diverted landing due to bad weather.”
Investigations are continuing.
