Passengers given bloody noses when pilots ‘forgot’ cabin pressure
More than 30 passengers needed medical treatment after the pilots of a Jet Airways’ flight apparently forgot to turn on a switch to regulate cabin pressure, causing the oxygen masks to deploy.
Flight 9W 697 from Mumbai to Jaipur was forced to do a u-turn shortly after take-off.
The Boeing 737, which was carrying 166 passengers, landed safely.
India’s aviation ministry said the pilots had been removed from duty during an investigation into the incident.
Lalit Gupta, a senior aviation official in India, told the Hindustan Times that they had forgotten to switch on the system to maintain cabin pressure.
In a statement, Jet Airways said: "The B737 aircraft, with 166 guests and 5 crew landed normally in Mumbai. All guests were deplaned safely and taken to the terminal. First aid was administered to few guests who complained of ear pain, bleeding nose etc."
