Passengers told to flush festival drugs down the toilet

Qantas offshoot Jetstar has apologised after a crew member advised travellers to a music festival to dispose of any drugs before landing in Sydney.

People who attended the festival near Byron Bay were returning to Sydney on a flight from the Gold Coast when the crew member made a public announcement.

According to News Ltd, the flight attendant warned sniffer dogs and quarantine officers were waiting at the terminal and advised passengers to flush "anything you shouldn’t have" down the toilet.

The announcement reportedly sparked a rush to the bathrooms.

The airline said the flight attendant was complying with a requirement that airlines make quarantine announcements, but the crew member’s words were "poorly chosen and plainly at odds with the professional standards we’d expect from our team".

The airline said the crewmember had been reprimanded.
