Passengers urged to check flight status as Alicante airport reopens
Alicante airport will gradually resume operations today but passengers are urged to check the status of their flights following two days’ of disruption.
Spanish airport operator AENA ordered Alicante’s closure on Sunday as a precautionary measure. It said strong gusts of wind meant the airport should remain closed as there was a risk of material from the roof deck and onto the aircraft platform or runways.
Jet2, Ryanair, TUI, Wizz Air and Vueling are among airlines that had to redirect flights to Valencia or Murcia.
On Sunday, 114 flights were suspended and on Monday another 67 were suspended, according to local reports.
Many parts of Spain have been hit by Storm Gloria, resulting in heavy rain, snow and strong winds.
