Peak season package prices fall by up to 13%
Package holiday prices to half the top destinations have fallen this summer from last year, according to new research.
Analysis by Co-op Travel and Travelcare shows that overall prices to 15 of the top 30 leading destinations have fallen from 2006.
The biggest savings are to be found in Spain with the average price of a holiday to Costa Blanca down £240 for a group of four (13% down on the average price in 2006).
Bargains are also to be had in Ibiza (down 13% or £220 for a group of four), Menorca (down 13% or £240), Crete (down 11% or £180) and Costa del Sol (down 10% or £188), according to the independent agency group.
Prices have tumbled as travel companies attempt to lure last minute bookers, the retailer said.
Additionally, late bookers will be given 50 euros or $70 in spending money from Travelcare, or the equivalent value in the applicable currency for their holiday destination, on bookings worth £750 and above and taken between by October 31.
The offer is applicable on all summer 2007 holidays booked with major tour operators at any of the chain’s high street branches.
Mike Greenacre, head of Co-operative Travel Trading Group, said: “This is good news for everyone, especially parents with young children as prices have fallen throughout the whole of the school holiday period. This will help families looking for an affordable break without taking their children away during term time.”
