South African Tourism welcomes new Business Tourism Manager
South African Tourism today announced the appointment of Donna Abberley as Business Tourism Manager. Based in the London office, Donna will be responsible for creating and implementing business tourism strategies with the overall aim of increasing the volume of business tourists to the country, improving the geographic spread of business tourism in South Africa and supporting business tourism suppliers.
With extensive experience in event and project management, conferences, road shows, exhibitions, meetings, hospitality and incentive travel, Donna will be instrumental in creating new relationships in the business tourism arena, nurturing existing ones, and influencing destination packaging for business tourism.
South Africa possesses particular history, culture, spirit and values which when translated into concepts that businesses understand and feel comfortable with, contribute towards a world-beating business tourism offering which is aptly titled Business Unusual.
Lebohang Mokhesi, UK Country Manager for South African Tourism, said: “South Africa is a place where the business tourist can gain a completely new perspective on doing business. It is a country that has a rich heritage of African traditions which can be directly related to business methodologies worldwide. We are delighted to welcome Donna to our team and her experience in the tourism and conference and incentive industries will complement our team’s current expertise across various disciplines.â€
Prior to joining South African Tourism, Donna worked for Visit London as Event Manager, where her role involved managing the organisation’s event portfolio and developing key event strategy. Donna has also worked as Event Manager for marketing agency George P. Johnson Company, and the Social Enterprise Coalition, which is the voice of social enterprise. She also has a degree in Business Studies & the Social Science of Sport from the University of Surrey.
Donna commented: “I’m thrilled to be joining the South African Tourism team in the UK, and look forward to working closely with my new colleagues to deliver some exciting projects. My priority for the first few months will be to develop and nurture key relationships within the industry which will be crucial to further increase business tourism to South Africa be it in relation to meetings, conferences, associations or incentives.â€
