Lifetime Achievement Award for Dr. Sten Olsson
Dr Dan Sten Olsson, CEO and principle owner of the Stena Sphere has been awarded the Passenger Shipping Association’s annual John Lancaster Smith Award – a lifetime achievement award for services to passenger shipping.
The award was presented at the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) 50th Anniversary Dinner, which took place onboard P&O Cruises’ Ventura, in the presence of 550 guests and representatives from the cruise and ferry industry, on Monday April 14.
Dr Dan Sten Olsson received the award for his contribution to passenger shipping over the past 25 years. Founded in 1962 and headed up by Dr Olsson since 1983, Stena AB’s ferry business, Stena Line is now one of the world’s largest ferry operators, with a total of 36 ships on 18 routes over eight countries. Today Stena Line carries around 16 million passengers annually and 3 million cars and around 1.8 million freight units.
Dr Olsson also supports the development of new environmentally friendly technologies and is a vocal member of the Alliance for Global Sustainability (AGS).
Previous winners of the award are Lord Sterling in 2005, Mauro Terrevazzi in 2006 and Chris Hayman in 2007.
