A US Airways flight was diverted in order to make an emergency landing yesterday after a dog on board bit a passenger and a flight attendant.
The terrier was taken out of its carrier by its owner despite warnings from cabin crew that this was not allowed.
The plane, heading to Phoenix, landed in Pittsburgh because the pilot wanted to make sure everyone was OK. It was met by law enforcement officers and the fire department.
The elderly dog owner was escorted off the plane with the dog but was later allowed to board another flight to Phoenix.
The spokesman told Associated Press that US Airways allows passengers to carry certain pets if they are secured in approved carriers and kept under their seats.
