Having founded a UK charity after a business incentive trip to Zambia, I have learnt that there is a huge market for philanthropic travel and responsible tourism.
Working close to the World Heritage Site of Victoria Falls I regularly meet tourists and take them to visit my humanitarian projects. Never once have I met anyone who hasn’t been moved by the plight of these vulnerable people and wanted to give something back.
If tour operators and hoteliers further promoted these cultural trips and made their clients aware of the need, much more could be done to reduce world poverty through the industry.
Frequently I get people contacting me through The Butterfly Tree website asking if they could visit my projects at Mukuni Village or volunteer at a school or clinic.
It’s a great marketing opportunity for tour companies and philanthropy seems to be the way forward.
