Pilot takes evasive action to avoid military bomber
A pilot had to take evasive action to avoid a midair collision with a military bomber.
The SkyWest pilot, flying a Delta Connection regional flight in North Dakota was forced into an ‘aggressive.’
The military plane was a B-52 Stratofortress which departed from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota.
The SkyWest pilot had to perform several sharp turns to avoid the bomber, local media reported.
The pilot announced to passengers the need for the aggressive maneuver and apologized to them over the intercom.
The pilot said no prior warning was given about nearby military air traffic.
“It caught me by surprise, this is not normal at all. I don’t know why they didn’t give us a heads up,,” he said.
SkyWest has since launched an investigation.
The airline said: “SkyWest flight 3788 landed safely in Minot after being cleared for approach by the tower but performed a go-around when another aircraft became visible in their flight path. We are investigating.”
