Pilots Touring Guide to exploring Australia by air
Just as holidaying motorists can turn to a touring guide to find out about road conditions, fuel supplies, where to stay and what’s to be seen in previously un-visited destinations, pilots of light aircraft exploring Australia can now get the same kind of information in a just-released Pilots Touring Guide.
Researched and written by long-time recreational pilot, Ian Barraclough the Guide details over 230 Australian destinations ranging from country and coastal towns to farm-stay properties, unusual country pubs, and grand resorts.
Mr Barraclough says planning is half the fun of a flying adventure, and his book is the result of experiences that have included arriving at destinations to find not a soul around to get him into town after landing, and the rude awakening at one airport on finding that the fuel he wanted came only in 200-litre drums and that he had to buy a whole drum – even though his plane’s tank took only 134-litres.
The Guide includes a map of places featured, describes town attractions, properties, resorts or National Parks and how to get around them, has notes on the history of each, and where the closest fuel is if not available at planned destinations… and has tips on what to do when planning a flying holiday.
The Pilots Touring Guide costs $33 plus $6 p&h and is available from [email protected] or Post Office Box 210 Seaforth NSW 2092.
