Plane diverted and cancelled due to faulty coffee machine
An Austrian Airlines flight carrying 217 people was diverted and cancelled due to a faulty coffee machine on board.
The Boeing 767 was en route from Vienna to Newark on Saturday when smoke came from the galley forcing cabin crew to discharge fire extinguishers, reports the Aviation Herald.
Although the smoke cleared, the crew decided to return to Vienna where the flight was cancelled because the crew would have been taken over their duty time limitations.
The airline reported that a coffee maker in the forward galley had suffered a technical defect causing smoke as result of a light smouldering fire.
The coffeemaker was removed from the aircraft.
Some passengers were rebooked onto other flights while others were taken to local hotels.
