Plane with faulty potty latest embarrassment for US airline industry
Reports of flying conditions continued to flow with Continental Airline officials apologizing for the latest problem: a faulty lavatory on a trans-Atlantic flight to Newark, NJ.
“I was forced to sit next to human excrement for seven hours,” passenger Collin Brock told Seattle’s KING-TV.
Continental officials did not deny the problem.
Flight 71 from Amsterdam bound to New Jersey made an overnight stop at Shannon to fix the lavatory. It appeared to work again when the plane now Flight 1970 took off.
At Newark, airline officials found that someone had blocked a waste line by flushing latex gloves down the toilet, despite warning signs.
Ironically, the incident came to light as Continental was celebrating being ranked first among traditional airlines in customer satisfaction in the J. D. Power and Associates rankings.
The airline in addition to its apology is giving out vouchers. The amount was not known. But at least one passenger, Mr Brock, said he doubted he would ever use it.
He apparently does not think much of awards.
