Plans for orbiting space hotel are revealed

Wednesday, 09 Apr, 2018 0

A new hotel is being planned that will offer great views but not much atmosphere.

Houston company Orion Span has unveiled the Aurora Station, which will offer up to four guests an out-of-this-world experience floating 200 miles above the earth.

The space hotel would offer ‘the exhilaration of zero gravity’ for $9.5 million each for a 12-day stay.

Orion Span is now accepting online advance reservations with deposits of $80,000.

The tiny ‘pod hotel’ will be staffed by two crew members and guests will undergo three months of acclimatisation before their stay.

Guests will be involved in research experiments such as growing food while in orbit.

Orion Span founder and CEO Frank Bunger said: "We want to get people into space because it’s the final frontier for our civilisation."

Orion Span still hasn’t sourced a launch contractor to get it off the ground and is still mulling funding sources, so it’s still unclear whether it will become a reality.

Watch this space.
