PM: no new airport taxes
Prime minister Rishi Sunak has vowed no more airport taxes.
It marks a different, more realistic path towards a net zero future, he says.
The new approach to net zero is watering down of previously agreed measures but said there is still a commitment to reach net zero on time.
Airport taxes mooted in the past included a ‘frequent flier’ fee and ‘carbon pricing’ fees.
These proposals only served to ‘discourage flying.’
“We will never impose unnecessary measures on the British people, but we will still meet our international commitments by 2050,” Sunak said.
Sunak also pushed back the ban on new petrol car sales from 2030 to 2035.
ABTA said government funding and incentives is critical for aviation to meet sustainable aviation fuel usage commitments.
New research from InsureandGo reveals that :82% of the public want more government action to support sustainable travel.
“Weakening the government’s green targets risks endangering the business investment that consumers need to play their part,” said Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy.
“Which? research has shown a majority of consumers are concerned about climate change and recognise their role to reduce their own impact.”

Common sense prevails in this case. Londoners are already penalised by the mindless ULEZ charges by the useless Labour mayor, hence it's sensible not to implement any more taxes on airport users. A permanent unbreakable legal ban on London Heathrow expansion by the UK Parliament would certainly go a long way in UK meeting Net Zero targets as well as allowing the natural habitats of humans and wild life to continue thriving in London and surrounding areas. Heathrow's foreign owners are continually utilising their political contacts in the UK Parliament to influence further expansion tactically & strategically in a stealth manner. Full support to Rishi Sunak's plans of no further airport taxes, and continuation of petrol cars manufacturing & selling in the UK. Bravo for a few sensible decisions. Please #SayNotoHeathrowexpansionForever during this parliament. Thank you.
