Police lose explosives at Paris airport
French authorities are reportedly investigating a “scandalous” security incident in which a block of plastic explosives went missing at Charles de Gaulle airport. According to the BBC News website, police officers had hidden the explosives in a bag as part of an operation to train sniffer dogs, on Friday afternoon. But, the website reports, the bag containing the explosives was mislaid – and is still missing. French authorities have reportedly warned dozens of airlines that it may have made its way on to one of their flights. The BBC quoted the French interior minister Domenique de Villepin as saying: “This is not part of our traditional practices. I would like to believe that this was isolated and the product of an individual initiative.” Police have reportedly reassured authorities that the explosives cannot be set off without a detonator.
