Police probe murder of British man and his Thai wife
Police have detained three Thai men for allegedly robbing and fatally beating a British man and his Thai wife in the resort area of Khon Kaen, an area popular with foreigners.
Local media reported that two of the suspects had confessed to robbing and murdering the couple at the Jack Beach Resort. The suspects worked at the hotel as a security guard and cook respectively.
A maid at the resort found the badly beaten bodies of the couple in their bungalow.
The suspects allegedly told police that they robbed the couple of cash, a mobile phone and an ATM card.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand said it was shocked by the news and said attacks like this are very rare in Thailand.
"Our thoughts are with the families and friends of both the victims, Michael Raymond and Suchada Bowkamdee, at this sad time," said Joanna Cooke, PR Manager for TAT UK.
"We have been informed by the Thai authorities that the three men involved have been arrested. This isolated incident is being investigated by the Royal Thai Police and the Foreign Office (FCO). TAT is unable to comment further."
The Jack Beach Resort is located on Huay Yang beach in the district of Tub Sa Kae, around 30 miles from the holiday resort of Hua Hin.
Hua Hin is popular with both Thai people and foreigners because of its close proximity to Bangkok. It is situated just 200 miles south of the capital city, a three-hour transfer by road.
