Post Office survey finds best ski holiday value
A Post Office survey has highlighted the costs of a ski holiday in different resorts.
The report, done with the help of winter sports guide ‘Where to Ski and Snowboard’, claims resort prices have risen by up to 15% in Europe and North America, making destinations like Bulgaria even better value for money.
The survey looked at the cost of ski holiday essentials, including equipment, lift passes and ski school, in 10 ski resorts across Europe and North America and added family food and drinks costs.
Here are the results:
1. Bulgaria (Bansko) £1,002.69 (+10.1%)
2. Slovenia (Kranjska Gora) £1,101.21 (not previously surveyed)
3. Austria (Ellmau) £1,378.53 (+2.6%)
4. Spain (Baqueira-Beret) £1,588.79 (not previously surveyed)
5. Andorra (Soldeu) £1,591.57 (+7.6%)
6. France (Les Menuires) £1,680.10 (+1.8%)
7. Italy (Selva) £1,851.94 (+3.1%)
8. Switzerland (Wengen) £2,015.59 (+13.6%)
9. Canada (Fernie) £2,329.31 (+15.0%)
10. USA (Winter Park) £2,639.70 (+14.8%)
Sarah Munro, Post Office head of travel money, said: “Families who want to save money should look hard at exchange rates before booking their skiing trip.
“Sterling’s weakness will make Swiss ski trips an expensive choice this year, compared with its main competitors France, Austria and Italy, where the euro’s value has dipped.
“Although resort prices have risen across the board this year,
there is still good value to be found if parents plan trips carefully.”
