Price most important factor for UK tourists
Forty per cent of people now book a holiday solely because of its price, according to research by Teletext Holidays.
And according to the Teletext survey of 1,000 people close to one fifth (18%) of those in the 25-35 year age group are “addicted to frequent holiday deal-hunting”. Of these, more than a quarter (28%) receive regular subscriptions to online travel newsletters and get price promotions e-mailed to their PCs.
In addition, 8% of people spend two hours at work organising their holiday and 22% visit a travel related website once a week to look at the latest offers.
Close to one fifth (19%) of Londoners took three holidays in the past year and 21% spent three weekends abroad. In contrast only 6% of Scots spent three weekends abroad in the past 12 months and just 3% took three holidays in the last year.
Teletextholidays.co.uk publicity manager Arabella Marsland of said: “There’s a new breed of UK travellers emerging and that’s the dedicated jet pack. This person will spend hours trawling the Internet for great deals, subscribe to travel newsletters and leave the country at the drop of a hat if the price is right – even if they know nothing of the destination they’re headed to. Our research revealed close to half of holiday-makers have rearranged a work or social engagement rather than let it stand in the way of a great trip.”
