Prices “slashed” for Indian Ocean holidays

Holiday operators have reportedly slashed prices of trips to countries affected by the tsunami disaster, with some negotiating to reduce prices even further.

According to The Times, holidays in three-star hotels in the Maldives, India and Thailand are being offered for less than £500, down some 20 per cent.

The newspaper reports that Teletext Holidays is offering a week’s half-board at a three-star resort in the Maldives for £479, a similar deal in Thailand for £449, and a week in an all-inclusive hotel in Goa, India, for £379.

A Thomson spokeswoman is quoted as saying: “Demand is low to the Maldives. We have reduced weekly flights from Gatwick and Manchester to just one flight from Gatwick, and that is quite empty. If you like peace and quiet, it is a good time to go.”

Teletext Holidays reportedly added: “People can support these places, bringing in the desperately needed tourist pound while getting good deals from us at the same time.”
