Putting on the glitz at the St Regis
SINGAPORE – The St Regis Singapore, the most high profile new luxury hotel to open in Singapore for over a decade, rolls out the red carpet for VIP guests this Sunday.
More than 1000 senior leaders from the worlds of business and society in Singapore have been invited to the official opening, which will echo the legendary social gatherings that took place in the original St. Regis New York over a century ago, when Caroline Astor, mother of the hotel’s founder John Jacob Astor IV, held her famous parties for the glitterati of New York.
These were the most influential social gatherings of the era, and the hotel played an important role in shaping the way high society met and interacted.
The opening of The St Regis Singapore will be a formal cocktail event. The hotel’s Astor Ballroom will be transformed into a 1920s style outdoor garden from the 1920s and the party will spread throughout the hotel’s restaurants and public areas.
The Singapore Symphony Orchestra will welcome guests with light classic waltzes, while live jazz bands from Shanghai, Sydney and around the region will make the evening swing.
Guests will sip Krug champagne and cocktails specially created by renowned international mixologists the Sorum brothers from Sweden.
“After months of preparation and a successful soft opening period, it is a great feeling that the hotel is now officially opening,†said general manager, Yngvar Stray.
“It’s also an honour for us to be the first St. Regis in South East Asia and exciting to be the first new internationally branded luxury hotel to open in Singapore in 11 years.â€
The St. Regis Singapore is the 13th in the world and the third in Asia after Beijing and Shanghai.
