Qantas adding Chicago and San Francisco to Brisbane network

Thursday, 18 Jun, 2019 0

Australian flag carrier Qantas plans to launch nonstop flights from Brisbane to Chicago and San Francisco next year.

It will start the services by the end of April 2020 as long as it receives final US government approval for a joint venture business with American Airlines.

The US department of transportation gave a tentative green light for the joint business agreement earlier this month.

The Chicago service will become Qantas’ second longest route at 16 hours and 20 minutes and will operate four times a week.

As a major American hub, it gives Qantas’ customers access to 30 additional unique one-stop destinations from Australia.

The airline says the direct flights will save passengers about six hours travel time on a round trip journey.

It will also fly from Brisbane to San Francisco three times a week, joining nonstop services from Melbourne and Sydney.

Both new routes will be flown by Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets.

Qantas is also upgrading its Sydney-San Francisco flights to Dreamliner service beginning on December 4 this year.
