Qantas announces more flights
Qantas Group General Manager Sales and Distribution Rob Gurney [pictured speaking at the Qantas lunch at ATE 2007 over the weekend] announced yesterday that Qantas will add three new Boeing 737-800 services a week between Brisbane and Perth from August this year, bringing the total number of weekly services operated on the route to 27.
He said the improved schedule and additional flights would provided more than 500 extra seats each week, adding, “This extra capacity is a direct response to the spike in tourist demand being experienced by the cities of Perth and Brisbane and the new schedule that Qantas has developed for services departing Brisbane will appeal to a broad range of traveller with two morning departures, an early afternoon and early evening.”
“Departures from Perth back to Brisbane also mean that travellers now have a choice of flights at around five-to-seven hour intervals, with the last flight at 5.20pm allowing them to take advantage of day trips to Rottnest Island or meander back to the city from Margaret River.”
“The improved schedule for those departing form Perth will also appeal to the business traveller and for the first time we are offering a non-stop Perth-Brisbane service, timed for an early morning departure at 7.35 am, which we believe will be very popular.”
“Alternatively, they can choose a flight that arrives in the early morning in Brisbane, at 6.20am, allowing them to complete a full day’s work”.
Qantas also announced increased services to South Africa and that the flying kangaroo will fly to South America for the first time, flying to Santiago, Chile in November 2008.
Three new weekly flights to Los Angeles will be added in March 2008 – taking the total number to 43 – plus an additional service to Johannesburg in November 2008.
An extra return service to Shanghai will be added in August 2008.
Qantas said more services to China will be offered for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Mr Gurney said that the new flights were available for sale through travel agents, on www.qantas.com or by calling Qantas on 13 13 13.
