Qantas axes NZ Travel Centre jobs
Qantas is chopping 11 New Zealand travel centre positions in Christchurch and Wellington, with Qantas consulting with staff at the centres as part of a review, but saying yesterday that only the Auckland Travel Centre would be retained.
The QF travel Centre in Christchurch will close on December 1, with the office closing and five jobs will be lost with the closure of the Wellington Travel Centre with one job going in Auckland, leaving five secure.
Qantas spokeswoman Anne-Marie Bennett said staff could be redeployed in sales and airport jobs and that the travel centre business had declined in Christchurch and Wellington, saying that it reflects a customer preference for online booking.
A Qantas source said staff were upset at having lost their jobs with the jobs disestablished and staff all made redundant.
