Qantas dress code crackdown supported by customers
Qantas says customers are in favour of a crackdown on shabby dress code in its airport lounges.
The airline announced it would enforce rules for smart casual dress starting from April after receiving complaints.
Customers donning thongs, singlets and torn T-shirts will be given a ‘friendly reminder” and may be denied entry.
It will apply to domestic Qantas Club and business lounges in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
Dress standards in leisure destinations will be more relaxed, Qantas said.
"The vast majority of our members meet and exceed the guidelines but we have had some feedback from customers that they want to see those guidelines apply to everyone," a Qantas spokesman said.
"The dress guidelines for our lounges are the same as most restaurants and clubs."
The spokesman cited an online poll which showed 84% of customers were in favour of the change.
