Qantas pilots demand resignation of chairman
Qantas Chairman Richard Goyder is facing calls to step down by its own pilots.
The Australian and International Pilots Association (AIPA), representing most of Qantas’ 3,000 pilots, called on new CEO Vanessa Hudson to force Goyder to resign.
Pilots ‘have totally lost confidence in Goyder and his board,’ AIPA President Captain Tony Lucas said.
It follows a series of highly damaging missteps by the airline which saw long time CEO Alan Joyce leave earlier than expected.
Qantas also lost a landmark case after firing 1,700 workers to bring in cheaper contracted labour.
Union TWU, which won the case, recently called on the entire Qantas board to step down.
Goyder has been chairman since 2018 and will not stand for re-election at the next annual meeting later this year.
Qantas shareholders have also demanded Goyder’s resignation.
